Boys wearing dresses and baby bonnets, a girl with blood dripping down her face, another boy chasing a boy in a dress with a nerf sword- WHAT IS GOING ON AT JUNIOR HIGH WEST!!! That is what students and faculty alike were wondering on October 19 as Mrs. Cline’s and Mrs. Mowry’s 9th grade class re-enacted chapters from “The Pearl” by John Steinbeck. As an alternative to taking an end of novel test, students were able to choose between six options on how to summarize one chapter of the book. Most students decided to do either a PowerPoint presentation or to make a video. Once they are finished creating, the students will present their specific chapter, in order, to the rest of the class. This activity allowed students to use their creative sides and have some fun while still learning about setting, characters, dialogue, main idea, and supporting details. Overall, the students did an amazingly good job!!! Special thanks to Mrs. Witt, the school librarian, for all her technological help.
